Is he gone?

She lay there silently for a long time, straining to hear.She couldn't tell if he, or was there more that one?...was gone, she couldn't hear him...them?...moving through the house any more. Slowly, quietly, she started testing the ropes. God, they were tight. If only she could free her hands...

Working the ropes, she could only hope. Hope that her captor had left...hope he hadn't found her room mate...hope she could get free...
